Hi! My husband and I are considering relocating to Tennessee, specifically the Nashville area. Any recs on towns would be very helpful. We were looking in areas north and south of Nashville, but do not know the surrounding areas. Also, I am a teacher and being that school has just begun...I was having difficulty finding information about employment in the education field. Any help would be appreciated. Nashville has a diverse selection of town/neighborhoods. What type of things are you looking for in an area? Urban, suburban, rural? If you are looking to purchase you might want to check out realtracs.com.
We live in Mount Juliet (Wilson County). I also teach in Wilson County.
I taught in Davidson County (MNPS) last year and I am much happier with my current county.
School systems in this area are:

I agree with the previous poster that it depends on what you want from your neighborhood/town. I also live in Mount Juliet. It is a little farther from Nashville, but it is really up and coming. Lots of new developement and retail as well as older homes. You can leave around Nashville in Green Hills, Nolensville, Nippers Corner, etc.
I'm not familiar with the schools, so I can't help you that much, but I know you can also substitute teach to become familiar with the schools. If you decide to live in one county and teach in another, many aren't that far apart where you couldn't do that.

Williamson County schools are supposed to be the best in the area and this county in general is pretty high end if that is what you are looking for.
Thank you all. We are looking for suburban areas. Currently we are a mile from the beach and about 45 min. to NYC and an hour to Philly. I would love to stay near some hustle and bustle, without being directly in the city. What are some differences between Thompsons Station, Franklin, and Goodlettsville?
Thompson Station and Franklin are both located in Williamson County. Goodlettsville in located in both Davidson and Sumner County. I would stay away from the Davidson side of Goodlettsville. Over the past decade the Davidson County side of Goodlettsville has gone down hill.
In Mount Juliet we are located about 30 minutes outside of Downtown Nashville. We are close to shopping, there is a train that runs downtown M-F, and there are two lakes near by.
We live in Bellevue (west side of Nashville about 15 min. from downtown) & I love it. The Green Hills, Sylvan Park & Belmont areas are also very nice & close to downtown.

I grew up in Manasquan and currently live in Spring Lake. We are very overwhelmed with the whole relocation process. It is not necessary; however, we can not afford to buy a four bedroom house at the beach and my mom lives in Alabama. That is major incentive to me, esp. since we want to start a family soon. Thank you for the locations, I will be googling them shortly. I will def. keep in touch if other questions arise.
