Eager to Learn

We are in desparate need of new landscaping.  There is no flow to what the previous owners did.  It seems sort of like plant a bush here, put a patio block there, etc.  The problem is I know NOTHING about landscaping, gardening, etc. but am anxious to learn.  We would like to do a lot on our own so I was wondering if there is a good book or website out there that I can look at.  TIA!

Re: Eager to Learn

  • I would highly recommend a landscape designer who charges by the hour. For not a lot of $, you can have someone evaluate your area, come up with suggestions, and work with you to develop a plan. At that point you can then do as much DIY work as you want.

I did this with my last house, and we did a variation of it with this house. At my last house, for $50 I got a plan for my back yard garden and put in plants myself. It turned out great.
