Nashville ?s

DH & I are planning a short weekend trip in October.  We're staying in at the Holiday Inn Express downtown.  Any ideas of places to eat, things we must/need to do while there, or any helpful tips would be great.  I remember going to the Grand Ole Opry hotel when I was little and loving it.  Is it still nice and worth the time to walk through?  DH wants to stop by Jack Daniel's on the way home.   Also, does anyone use Illusions Spa?  I have a gift card I'm using while we are there.  Thanks for any ideas you have.

Re: Nashville ?s

  • Opryland is still big and beautiful, but to me at least it's very touristy and odd sometimes.  If you like that sort of thing then you'll enjoy it but I prefer the more 'real' side of Nashville.

One of my favorite places downtown is Merchants Restaurant.  I don't get downtown a lot sorry! West End, Green Hills, and Hillsboro Village are all fun areas (and near downtown) to check out with great shops and restaurants!

  • Don't know what you guys are into, but I'll throw out some ideas.

There is a fun haunted pub tour as well as other haunted tours around town. I've only been on the pub tour, so I can say that was fun. No ghosts, but they have drink specials and it's a good time.

Everyone (even locals) like the Country Music Hall of Fame. Hillsboro Village is cool. I hate Green Hills, but look it up online, it might be an area you would like. Just not my thing.

  • just went this past weekend and went to eat at cabana (I have a review in my blog-link in siggy). The pancake pantry always gets rave reviews for breakfast, although I've not tried it myself.  I have eaten at Le Peep and it's great for breakfast/brunch.  Opry Mills is a great mall beside the Opryland Hotel if you are in for some shopping.  Jack's BBQ downtown is really good...ooh check out Las Paletas it's a gourmet popsicle place and they are truly amazing!
