Question for mommies...

My sister should be going into labor sometime in the near future. I was hoping to put a little care package together for her while she's at the hospital.

Any suggestions?

I wouldn't mind including little things for baby AND mommy but don't know the first clue about things they may need.

TIA =)

Re: Question for mommies...

  • For the hospital I'd suggest yummy snacks (like cookies, crackers, etc.), a wonderful lip balm, fuzzy/warm socks, and maybe a headband/hair ties. If she's going to breastfeed I'd include some breast pads, Soothies (gel breast pads are awesome!) and a nursing tank.  You could include a swaddling blanket for baby (I recommend the SwaddleMe or Miracle Blanket).

  • Yummy snacks for sure! Like... Ice cream! Just b/c the baby is born, the lifelong craving does not go away! Hee hee.

Also, they tell you to drink LOTS of water, so maybe some sort of large water bottle or cup? I had to keep refilling the plastic one and that was annoying.

Maybe a sweet book to read to her baby? I LOVE "The Night You Were Born," it makes me tear up every time I read it.

Nursing tank is a great idea... I love Bravado ones. Most hospitals will give you gel soothies and breast pads for free.

    HTH!

  • I second Malia's idea for the water bottle.  I still use mine.

The nursing tank is suck a great idea as well.  That way her tummy isn't showing when she's nursing in public.  I love mine.

It's so nice that you're getting something for her!  Everyone is so excited for the baby, she'll really appreciate you thinking of her.

Oh and for the baby a zippered onsie!  I seriously hated snaps!

  • My girlfriend gave me a relaxation care package and it included travel-sized Aveda products, which I promptly packed in my hospital bag.

I also received some hot/cold aromatherapy cushions that may either help during or after labor.  Love the lavender scent of those!

The nursing tank idea is good, but you'd have to know her approximate size.

Boo!  Mine didn't.  They were also stingy with the Laniosoh Lanolin and I had left my tube of it at home.

yes, mine gave me a couple of pairs of soothies, plenty of lansinoh lanolin and because I complained of nipple sensitivity they gave me a breast shield/dome thing that you put on after feeding to allow the nipple to air dry.  I don't use any of that stuff anymore.  I also preferred my own nipple butter that I had brought.

I really like like l the Earth Angel Baby Mama stuff - specifically the postpartum mama bottom spray.  It's nicer than the witch hazel wipes the hospital gave me.  They also gave me a first aid spray that I didn't use.  My friend that ended up with a c-section also bought it and said she liked it too just to spray during post partum bleeding.  I also like their nipple butter better than lansinoh.  They sell the stuff at my local Babies R Us and also as the natural body care/herb shop.

  • socks and slippers! but that's for any hospital stay =)
