Hey, Foto.  Someone mentioned Destin, FL the other day as a great vacation spot.  I've never heard of it.

Is it some hidden Florida secret?

Jumping in here (sorry) I used to live 30 minutes away from Destin in Pensacola, FL. I don't think its a secret, but its in the Panhandle of FL which doesn't get as much hype unless you live near there. It has really pretty beaches, an outlet mall, and outdoor shopping center (Destin Commons) that is REALLY nice, and some great places to eat as well. We used to drive in on Saturdays sometimes to shop or just to go to a different beach/restaurant then the ones in our town. Its really nice, I think anyway.

I've never been there, but lots of people go there from Atlanta. I think it's like a 5 hour-ish drive?

hey! I have never been to Destin, it is really far North of me and in the panhandle like some other people have said. I live in Daytona Beach, which is on the east coast and pretty far south. I know a lot of my family from Alabama go there on vacation because it is close and they seem to like it!

I have been there. My uncle got married on the beach there. We stayed on the beach so every morning when we woke up we would see dolphins jumping. There is an outlet mall and great places to eat. DH and I want to go back there, but its a 9 hr drive for us to get there.

Thanks for the info, ladies.  Would you say it's touristy (-like, tacky touristy)?

I used to live in Panama City Beach...which is like 45 minutes from Destin.  PCB was such a hole and Destin was my "get out of town and be around normal people for a day" town....in the summer it is pretty busy but they have awesome shopping, great restaurants, and CLEAN beautiful beaches.  I don't think it's tacky touristy at all...PCB is tacky touristy....love Destin,
