How do I trim my irises? I planted them last year and they grew like crazy but never bloomed. I'm going to wait it out this year and see what they do. Well a lot of the "leaves" died over the winter and I pulled them off but some are really bushy and bent over the ground. How do I trim these? Can I cut healthy leaves? How do I cut them? Does anyone know how to get them to bloom? As you can tell I'm a gardening idiot.
Re: Irises?
My irises didn't bloom until the second year I had them. They need to be well established to bloom. Unless you have dead foliage, I wouldn't trim the leaves now. The best time to trim them is late fall when you can trim the foliage to 4-6".
