So, I was in the kitchen at work a few months ago when the following occured:
I was letting the water run into my gross coffee mug in the sink. I admit, it was not the best way to clean it, but I was in the middle of making more coffee, so I let it run.
In walks one of my co-workers who proceeds to look at me and look at my coffee cup, and then says "Is this yours?". I say yes, and go back to what I was doing. He then proceeds to leave the kitchen, but storms back and cuts off the water and says "I'm sorry, I can't just let this run.". Then he leaves for real this time without another word.
Now, I understand that yes, I was wrong for running the water instead of letting it soak, I'm not arguing that. What upset me was this guy coming over and shutting off the sink while I was using it. If I were the President of the company, who sits on my floor btw, would he have done that? And how about the fact that they provide us with filtered water and this guy was in there grabbing a bottled water instead of using cup. We don't use plastic or foam cups at my job, so it's not like there would be waste no matter what choice he made. Maybe I should have yanked the plastic out of his hand and told him I couldn't let him drink that.
I felt so slighted and belittled. I am working on doing my part. I have changed so much in the past few months, and while I'm far from perfect, I'm proud of the strides I've made.
Seriously, would any of you guys ever do anything like this?
Re: Work Based Eco Terrorism
Umm....truth? Yes, I would. I wouldn't be all huffy and storming about over it. I'd just do it. Leaving water running drives me crazy.
The person was probably having a bad day for other reasons, so I'd just let it go and be glad they are out there monitoring water waste! I really don't think they are judging you so don't feel belittled. As the great Eleanor Roosevelt said (and thanks ST for just posting this!), "No one can make you feel inferior without your consent".
I've done similar, but by saying, "Hey, you don't mind if i turn this off, do you?" or "I'll get the faucet for you; your hands are full."
Maybe, given the bottled water, he didn't care about the waste, but had a migraine and the sound bothered him (or something).
Best sound ever: baby's heartbeat! (Heard @ 10w1d)
Terrorism REALLY???
Yes I would have turned the water off. I wouldn't have been a *** about it but come on..you said so yourself that you knew you shouldn't have left it running.
Some people have to drink bottled water when they take medication (this is the case with my mom). Meaning when she is swallowing the pill she has to use bottled water. Weird yes...but it is doctors orders.
This doctor is a dolt. Many brands of bottled water are just bottled tap water. I don't know what the doctor thinks his patients are getting out of this.
My g'pa had to drink a specific water only. No tap water (Reno) but it was something special... what do you call it in biology/chemistry de-iodized or something? Now I sound like a fool... but it had to be stripped of everything.
Yah ditto this. The doctor isn't a dolt.
There is a reaction that can occur between the medication she is on and what is in tap water.

This. If you had said distilled water I would have completely agreed with the doctor.
