Kitchen stores in Richmond
Hi ladies! I know this board isn't terribly active, but I have been searching for a good kitchen store. I'm not talking about Williams and Sonoma or a product store, but more of a hard to find ingredients store. If anybody knows of one that you like, please reply! Hope you are all doing well!
Re: Kitchen stores in Richmond
Hey! I really wish we could get this board moving.
You've probably been to all the places I know about. I like Penzey's for spices. Ellwood Thompson's has a lot of more specialty products, as does Trader Joe's. I especially like Trader Joe's for specialty cheeses because they're usually much cheaper than anywhere else. Those are really the only places I know about. I've actually been trying to find a good baking supply store, but the only one I found (way outside of Richmond) was a really big disappointment. Maybe since we're new to the area, we should just go drive around one day and see what we can find.
I found this one online, but I've never been there to know what all they carry.

If you're looking for meats or fish, I suggest Fresh Market, Whole Foods (definitely not my favorite, but sometimes they have interesting meat), or Bloom. There is also a good Asian market, Tan-A, on Broad St. kind of near Willow Lawn.
As far as cooking/baking supplies I don't even really know. Michael's and Ben Franklin both carry a lot of Wilton stuff, but I haven't ever found a good supply store.
Richmond is definitely known for good restaurants, but I don't think it's very popular to be into cooking other than the kinds of stuff that's offered through places like Williams-Sonoma.
Good luck!
Jen
There's a baking store on the southside: http://www.bakerskitchen.com/
I went there with my aunt as a kid, but haven't been there in years...no idea what all they really offer...I just remember cake pans and lots of decorative items to go on the cakes
There's also a new Asian store coming to the Twin HIckory Shopping Center on Nuckols...not sure when it will be open.
If you are ever in Cville...about an hour away...there is a store there called Foods of All Nations that you should check out.
