New here... and need some suggestions

Hi ladies,

I've just recently become aware/sensitive to the toxins in my "beauty" products.  Mainly after a visit here. (I know, I know... a little late!)

Anyhow- as a life-long girly girl and fan of beauty products, I'm struggling with the transition away from mainstream and toward toxin free items.

Please recommend your nail polish, deodorant and body soap.

Thanks in advance!!

  • I make my own deodorant and it works better than ANY conventional deodorant I have ever used.

    Here's the recipe:

1/4 cup baking soda (I use less because I have sensitive skin)
    1/4 cup cornstarch
10 drops tea tree oil or lavender oil (you can use any essential oil, but the recipe suggests these two for their antibacterial qualities)
    2-5 TBSP coconut oil

Mix all ingredients together and place in old deodorant stick or glass container. Let sit to mold for 1 day.

Note: I initailly used 2 TBSP of coconut oil, but I found it was too crumbly. 3 seemed to do the trick for me, but I guess it depends on your preference. You do need to be careful if using a deodorant stick because during hot weather, the coconut oil will melt. I haven't had this problem, but you can put in a glass container and when it melts, just use it like a wet roll-on (still works great!) This is truely the best deodorant I have ever used, and it's very cheap too make!

  • Welcome!

I use Gudonya Too's Stinky No More deoderant from etsy. I've never tried the homemade kinds, I'm lazy! This works best for me compared to any of the more mainstream brands I tried.

For body soap I use Dr. Bronner's liquid or Gudonya Too's foaming body cream wash.

  • I've tried quite a few deoderants (and am too lazy to make my own) but am very happy with Tom's of Maine.

I used Alba body wash (midnight tuberrose).

  • Hello and welcome!  I've tried a ton of natural deoderants (too lazy to make my own) and am currently using Arm & Hammer's "essentials" (natural line) once I found out Crystal deoderant has aluminum in it.  I'm not happy with A&H though, as it has Triclosan.  I use Dr. Bronner's lavender liquid soap for body wash, and Avalon Organics line of facial products.
