Hello all,
We are house hunting in Mass this weekend and we are staying at a hotel in Billerica. Is there anything fun to do with small kids in or near Billerica?? I've found the Drumlin Farm and the Butterfly Place. Anyone have any thoughts on this? I'd love some advice.
Re: Fun in Billerica??
That's my hometown.
Well if your kids enjoy fast food, this is the place! Just kidding, well kinda. Unfortunately there isn't too much directly in town. Since we only have one hotel, I know exactly where you are staying.
I loooooooved the Butterfly Place when I was a kid. Good choice there. We also went to Drumlin Farm a lot too. Another good choice. There is minigolf (depending on how old your kids are) at Rangeway on Rt.4 but I don't know if it will be warm enough yet, or even if they are open.
Down Rt.3 in Burlington there is a good size mall. There is an AMC movie theater across the street.
If I think of anything else I'll let you know. What towns are you house hunting in? GL with that!
Thanks ladies I appreciate the input. We know very little about the area, so any input is great. We're mostly looking in the Leominster area. (but couldn't get a hotel near there that wasn't booked) DH is working in Harvard, so Ayer, Shirley, etc. are all possibilities. Any towns that are great around there? or any to avoid??
My inlaws are going with us and want to go into Boston to the Children's Museum Friday afternoon. I think it's too far after driving half a day to get there in the first place. (How long do you think?) I think they forget what it's like to be three and stuck in a carseat for a 5 hour drive. I just want to do something simple and fun -- maybe the hotel pool will be enough.
Is there really only ONE hotel in Billerica???
It's about 30-40 minutes to Boston from there. I don't think it would be that bad, but I don't have a kid yet so you would know better than I would haha.
Also in that area for house hunting, check out Littleton :-)
This. The towns 495 intersects from Bolton and north have good school systems.
And apparently there are a couple more (smaller) hotels in Billerica than I thought. Since they are all pretty close to the highway, assuming no major traffic it should only take about a 1/2 hour to get into Boston. Go Rt.3S to 95N to 93S. Just beware if you go on a week day traffic starts getting backed up on 93N out of the city between 3-4pm (until after 6-7pm).
I'm a little late, but there's a children's museum in Acton (discovery museum). Probably easier to get to than Boston. There's also Perpetual Motion in Lowell. It's pretty fun for the kids.
Also, we live in Chelmsford and LOVE it there.
Good luck!
