Kindergarten snacks.

Emily's starting kindergarten on Tuesday! Every week a different child's parent(s) are responsible for providing the snack for the kids (AM and PM classes). This way you don't have to send a snack daily, and really will only have to think about it twice a year. I'm just wondering what tasty (and more importantly healthy) snacks I should send. I was thinking carrots, and boxes of rasins would be a good start, but was wondering if you all may have some suggestions. --As of now, none of the students have any allergies, so that will make it easier.

Re: Kindergarten snacks.

  • Remember that 'Everybody Loves Raymond' episode where the parents rotated the snack provisions for the soccer games?  All the other parents always provided nice healthy snacks and Ray and Debra brought crap and everyone was mad at them?  [That's all I have to add to this post, sorry...]   :-)
  • LOL, yes! And there was an episode of "Still Standing" where Bill and Judy were supposed to bring cheese and crackers to a recital and Bill showed up with Handi-Snacks!
  • The latest Family Fun magazine had a whole bunch of ideas in there...

    Mini caramel apples

    Carrot patches

    "Fruit" cake

Although those would take some time...but off the top of my head, there is celery, apples, pretzels, goldfish (they sell individual packs now)

  • Stuff for ants on a log. I think every kid loves those.
  • The Pre-K in my old school did this. They would send in fruit salad, cheese and crackers, goldfish, snack mix (you could make up a huge container- chex, chocolate chips, mini marhmallows, pretzels), veggies and dip or dressing, mini muffins, jello or pudding cups, raisins, apples and PB, granola bars or Nutri-grain bars.. I know there were many more but that is all I can think of off the top of my head.

  • I think anything where the kids can help make it is wonderful.  Like the others suggested, maybe ants on a log ingredients, or a few bowls of different chopped fruit and granola and yogurt and the kids can make their own parfait?

  • Oh, Gogurt is another popular one!
  • Just be careful with anything with Peanut Butter (like ants on a log), because I know a lot of schools don't allow peanut butter
  • make sure there isn't a nut-free policy, which it sounds like there isn't.  cheese and crackers, pb and crackers, strawberries w/ yogurt dip, go-gurts, pretzels w/ cheese spread, 100-calorie packs of those cookies and crackers ...
