If you grow fruits/veggies/herbs to eat...

What fertilizer/plant food do you recommend for them?

TIA

Our IF journey: 1 m/c, 1 IVF with only 3 eggs retrieved yielding Dylan and a lost twin, 1 shocker unmedicated BFP resulting in Jace, 3 more unmedicated pregnancies ending in more losses.
Total score: 6 pregnancies, 5 losses, 2 amazing blessings that I'm thankful for every single day.

  • compost.

and if you really need something extra...kelp & fish emulsion.

  • I just use miracle grow every few weeks, just like my mom did! :) I have been debating starting a compost though, just to say that I have! Where I am at, we have really good soil so I just plant - but my mom would always start with a bed of cow manure and rototill that in before planting. (We live in a high agriculture area)

  • I grow without pesticides or synthetic fertilizers. I use composted horse manure (I have a free supply), compost, coffee grounds and wood ash, depending on the plant.
  • Can fresh horse manure be used? I have a friend with a horse so it would be free!
  • No...horse manure needs to compost for quite awhile before it's good for gardening. Good rule of thumb, if it still smells....it's not composted enough!

Also check into "companion planting." Just planting marigolds next to cucumbers for example can help them fight disease. Just google it....a lot to learn. I've been reading a ton on it and moved around my entire garden plan this week and moved most of my herbs to be "border" plants instead.

Ditto.  Plus compost tea.  Foul smelling stuff, but my tomatoes went apeshit after one application last year.

  • How do you compost tea?
