Landscape Designers

I saw a post yesterday about paying a landscape designer come in and help you create a plan but then you doing the work yourself.  Does anyone know if Lowes or Home Depot offers this service (similar to their kitchen design service)?  I tried looking on their websites but don't see anything.

I am really interested in having this done, but money is tight within our landscaping budget and I don't want to spend a lot of money on the design aspect when I know all of the plants/soil/mulch are going to cost so much.  Thanks!

Re: Landscape Designers

  • I'm not sure about those stores, but if money is tight you might try checking with local gardeners. They're not necessarily trained designers, but they can be a great resource and usually know what does the best in your area.

  • You probably want to try local nurseries, not big box stores.  All the local nurseries around here will have a designer come out & give you ideas/advice for $75
  • Ditto Kastle - try a local firm.

We actually have a firm in the area that has a program called "We Plan, You Plant" where you send them pictures and a sketch of the area and a short questionnaire, they'll do a design for you and then you get the design for free if you buy the plants from them.  We're going to use them for planning the walkway and landscaping along our garage to the backyard.

We actually had a designer from a local nursery come out last weekend. They do plans - but that can get expensive. For $75 we walked around our property (new construction) so we have nothing in the back and builder's crap in the front - told her what we liked, and she gave us great ideas - plant names, number of each, and quickly sketched it out. Also, we'll get 10% off at the nursery until the $75 is paid for - which will pretty much be taken care of after we buy all the stuff to redo the foundation plantings. Definately check with a local nursery.
