suggestions for a cincinnati nestie?

hey ladies.  i'm a cincinnati nestie, and my mom and i will be coming to indianapolis this weekend.  we will be going to the kathy griffin show saturday night, but we need suggestions for what to do on sunday.

what do you think?

tia!

Re: suggestions for a cincinnati nestie?

  • Are you staying downtown?  Or another side of town?
  • we're staying downtown, but i forget which hotel.  my mom made the reservation.

and suggestions for things to do sunday, and for dinner on saturday would be great!

  • The Kathy Griffin show is at the Murat, which is on Massachusettes Ave, often just called Mass Ave.  http://www.discovermassave.com/ That's a fun little area.  You might take a cab there, though, if you are staying downtown, just 'cause it is a bit of hike to walk out there.  (unless you guys enjoy a nice long walk!)  Before the show- before you eat dinner, or maybe after, you can walk Mass Ave and visit some cute little shops and boutiques and some art galleries.  There are several great restaurants on Mass Ave and I would recommend eating out in that direction.

Elements- pricey, but my fave restaurant in Indy.  Chef Neil always uses local, fresh ingredients and has a different menu every night.  Food ranges from great steaks to delicate pastas- everything is handmade.     www.elementsindy.com

R Bistro- another great choice with bistro-like food.  Still a little pricey (and at the very FAR end of Mass Ave, might take awhile to walk between there and the Murat), but excellent quality.  www.rbistro.com

The Rathskeller- great German restaurant with lots of charector.  Has a great beer garden and bar area.  Not my favorite spot for a "girls night" dinner, but it all depends on your preferences and personalities!  http://www.rathskeller.com/

Scholar's Inn- fun and "hip" restaurant and bar.  Still a little bit pricey, but if you eat in the bar or right outside the bar (non smoking and great menu!), you can share a bunch of appetizers or smaller items.  http://www.scholarsinn.com/IndyLounge/dinner.html

I've never been to Agio, but I hear it's pretty good.  Italian/Mediterrean place.  I would not recommend Aesop's Table- had two seperate bad experiences there.  If you're looking for something really affordable, then check out Yat's- crazy, cajun, creole.  A place with fun spirit and fun food.

As for what to do on Sunday, that's really gonna depend on what you and your mom like to do.  Indy's got something for everyone.  If you're shoppers, there's the downtown Circle Centre Mall or even the Fashion Mall, which is about a 25 minute downtown drive.  The Indianapolis Museum of Art is BEAUTIFUL- both the grounds and the inside.  It's about a 10 minute drive from downtown, but worth it.  It's free, too, except for a few special shows that you have to pay for entry.  www.imamuseum.org  The art museum also has a Puck's restaurant there that could provide a nice brunch or lunch for you.  Or, if you wanna stay downtown, you could do White River State Park http://www.indy.org/indianapolis/web/jsp/whattodo/detail.jsp?c=8089405:details&m=v&b=attractionsmuseums&p=1&x=1219402202321#details- an urban downtown park that includes open green space, a great canal walking area, museums, our zoo, etc. (you can also rent bikes, paddle boats and Segways there!)  Neat place just to walk around if you like that.  If you guys like wineries, you can head to Easley winery downtown and enjoy a wine tasting there.  www.easleywinery.com If you guys want to be pampered, the Villa Inn is open on Sunday www.thevillainn.com.  The Villa Inn also has a nice restaurant where you could do brunch or lunch.

I don't know your interests or personalities, but hopefully this helps to jog your mind a little bit.  Let me know if you have specific questions about any of this.  I'm happy to help!  (the cinci girls helped me out when I was planning my cinci trip last year!)
