Marriage Certificate

Hi Everyone!  I'm new to this board, I'll be married a month this Saturday.  I got married in Gloucester Township and was wondering how long it takes to get the real marriage certificate?  I want to start changing my name, but I can't with the certificate.  I tried calling the municipal meeting today but they're all morons and I couldn't get an answer without waiting on hold forever, and I don't have time to be on hold during the day.

TIA

Re: Marriage Certificate

  • I think it's a week or two, if you got married a month ago they should definitely have it
  • Great, Thanks, I think I'll just go over Monday, maybe if I'm there in person someone will help me.
  • The person who officated your wedding has three days after the ceremony date to submit it back to the county you applied for it with. Then it will take five business days to process. You can go pick it up now. Make sure to get a couple copies.

That's where I got married too (at St. Agnes) and it took almost a month to get our certificates since the priest messed something up (with one of our witness's address I think it was) and it delayed the processes a bit however; I think it was moe the township being slow than him because he was very on top of things.  Personally, I would keep calling them until you can track them down.  If you do go in person, they're not open on Fridays.
  • Thanks, I got married at St. Agnes to, but our priest was amazing and made sure it was exactly as they requested. When yours was done did they call you?

I know they're closed today, I think I'll call or stop in on Monday.  The problem with calling is that the receptionist never has any clue what you are talking about and you end up on hold or transferred a million times.  I'm a teacher and only get a 30 minute lunch before I have to back to work.

No, they didn't call us but I also had them mailed to us since we live in PA now.  Normally, I wouldn't have cared when we got them however; I was dropping my medical insurance and going on my husband's and I only had 30 days to drop my insurance.  I called a few days after our honeymoon and that's when I found out that there was a type-o or something like that.  When I called the township a second time and left a message for the girl, telling her I needed them to change my medical insurance within 30 days of the wedding date, it took her two or three days to get back to me and in that time, we'd received our certificates.

I would call and tell them you only have a 30 minute lunch break and you need to talk to someone.  Or, you need the certificates to change yours or H's benefits and only have 30 days to do it.  GL!
