April 17th-23rd

My husband and I are visiting San Diego and La Jolla for the first time.  Any great local events or must do activities?  Thank you very much!

Re: April 17th-23rd

  • This is my first post! So exciting! Anyway, I would suggest going to The Cove at La Jolla. You can walk along the water, take lots of good pictures, ?look at the seals, and there are a lot of really good places to eat. I think the Padres are in town that weekend, too.?
  • A lot of the big local events (the Fair, the Races, etc.) don't start until June. You may check and see what's playing at the La Jolla Playhouse. It's an equity theatre, but it's also used by the UCSD undergraduate/graduate programs in theatre and dance, and they put on some excellent performances.

For brunch, I always recommend Brockton Villa in La Jolla.

And, a San Diego Must-Do/See is a visit to Balboa Park. April 18th is Earth Day, and there's always a huge celebration down there. The San Diego Zoo is also incredible. Spring Hours are 9:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.

  • Since you'll be here while they are blooming, I'd really suggest The Flower Fields in Carlsbad - so pretty!

  • Thanks for all the great recommendations...Yes, we will go to see the beautiful flowers!  I can't wait to visit your great city by the sea...
  • This is my favorite place for dessert and Sunday Brunch.  It is located in downtown.

The north section of the flower fields is looking pretty bare right now so dont be surprised if there are some empty patches when you visit.  They try to rotate the fields so that there are always flowers in bloom.  I work right next to the fields and see them every single day.  If you have allergies, take some medication before your visit :)  Its pretty fragrant out there.  If you like strawberries, there is a strawberry field right down the road (its on Cannon)--they have flats you can buy or a pick your own option.
