I was talking to a friend last night who used to be my boss. She's having a baby in July and has been on my case about filling in for her during maternity leave pretty much since she got pregnant! "You're the only one I trust!" I tell her every time I can't give a definite answer until we're closer to that time because a full time position trumps an 8 week temp position. Well, now she is seriously considering not returning after maternity leave, which would mean I might have a really great, well-paying job at the end of it! Lord knows her husband makes plenty for the both of them, they just bought a mansion on the main line. The thing that sucks is the last week in july will be the end to my unemployment checks (unless they extend it AGAIN), so if I'd work from july -sept , I'd be able to collect those last 4 weeks if I didn't get the full time job at the end of this temp position and then that's IT. The thing that sucks about unemployment is you really can't do anything to supplement your income/save more because you have to legally report any part-time work, so it's either sit on your ass and collect, or work your ass off at several part time jobs (which just seems stupid, right? Then you're wasting full time job hunting time.) Unless you find a full time job that pays as well as your old job, you're stuck. Don't get me wrong, I am VERY grateful for it, we'd be living w/MIL if it weren't for those checks. I don't know, I'm really worried about putting myself on the line like that for a possibility, but if it's the only opportunity I have, I HAVE to take it! Even if they paid me 10k less than her salary, it would be life changing for DH & I (it's a REALLY good job). I am so tired of living in limbo, not knowing where my life is going! DH & I just want to get on with it and actually be able to plan our future. I would like to request some big time long term vibes that I either get a great job before july or that I'm offered her job in sept! Thanks for reading if you got this far!
Re: a job? maybe? please?
Kirsty---TONS OF T&P and awesome job vibes to you!!! I'm going through some struggles over work and it's been driving me BSC. I would be going crazy, too, if I had to deal with that much unknown!
Wow... mansion on mainline---yep, wow... would you and DH have to move or would you have a big commute?
Again, lots of vibes that she def decides to not return after the 8 wks and you get that position!
~~ Long term Vibes~~ headed your way!!!
That sounds awesome. I really hope this works out for you!!
30 min commute-not bad at all! I think mine is around 20 and it's all 'city' miles...
throw some my way if you have a few spares...my job is moving out of state end of july, maybe end of june (depends who you ask). I've been applying and while it's only been a week on some of my applications, i'm impatient and i want to hear back now.
good luck though, kristy. it sounds like a wonderful opportunity
:::JOB VIBES::: headed yor way.
I totally understand your issues with the unemployment...
I'd have to make a take home salary (amount after taxes) of about $10/hour just to have it be worth coming off the unemployment. Even a little retail job can't do that for me...so here I sit...day after day...waiting for the engineering/construction market to turn around.
