I'm in tears. I just found out a student (whom we have been really counseling and working with to make sure he makes good choices outside of school) got caught shoplifting yesterday. They weren't going to call police because he was so young (9 years old) but his mom insisted because she said she didn't want to deal with him. There's a long history but basically she's a mom in the sense that she birthed him, that's it.
We've seen some bad decisions from him (getting beat up bc he started stuff with the 17-18 year olds he hangs out with, etc) but this is heart-breaking bc it could mean juvenile hall and expulsion which puts him back in public school (which are terrible and gang-ridden in his neighborhood).
Sometimes I love this city. Today I hate it.
Re: Depressing...
I'm sorry to hear this. That's a major problem with society today.
I had a student tell me yesterday that her father took her cell phone due to her bad grades and so she smacked him and he gave her the cell phone back! I can't believe kids today!

really? you're going to bring my opposition to your whining about dealing with a bad business situation over here and try to compare it to a CHILD?! that's awesome and shows what an amazing person you are.
get a life. i work in a really poor area in inner city DC. Mock something else other than a child's life which we are trying to make as decent as possible. and if you know anything about the demographic that I work with (or that student for example) you'd know that it's not all the child's fault since he's 9 and has no support at home.
You are dealing with adults. You are an adult making an adult decision. It's not my fault dealing with bad people is making you mad when you knew they were skeevy from the start. You compare making that decision to a child having home issues at 9 years old? And chasing me here from the home board just shows what an awesome human being you are with common sense. You are in a bad business situation with a company YOU decided to. I said it over and over that I'm not surprised that you are dealing with issues with them bc it's been rough from the start. A dose of reality is hard to take I guess.
