Cover Letter help

I posted this on 9 to 5, but thought I would ask here as well. I'm still not sure what to do.

I found a job that I would like to apply for that deals with helping students enroll in the veterans program at a university. With DH being in the military and living the military lifestyle, I think that I could really relate to the students that are applying. I normally don't disclose that DH is in the military (I don't want people to think we move all the time) and I wasn't sure if it would be acceptable in this situation. What do you think?

Put it in the cover and hope they understand?

Don't put it in the cover letter and hope for a interview?

Re: Cover Letter help

  • I wonder if there is a way to say that you are familiar with the military lifestyle without sayins specifically that your DH is in it.  That way you could emphasize your specialized skill set without giving away too much "personal" info.  And of course you could explain more in an interview.

I don't really know the cover letter rules or anything, but just my 2 cents.  I think it is worth trying to mention.

  • I think I would include this information, I think it could really help set you apart from the other applicants. Perhaps you could say you have immediate family in the military and not say it's your husband?

Good luck, Shh, I know you've been feeling kind of pigeon-holed in your current position so I hope this prospect pans out for you!

  • Thanks - This helps.
  • I'm late so I don't know if you've already applied, but I would include this information in the cover letter.  You can say, as PP stated, you have lived the military lifestyle and are familiar with it without explicitly stating your DH is in the military.
