Visiting Windsor Locks area! Suggestions please!

Hi ladies! I am an Omaha nestie and hoping you can provide suggestions. I am going to be in Windsor Locks for a conference but i will have some free time on Saturday evening and Sunday. Any ideas or suggestions of things to do/see. From looking online there doesnt seem to be a lot in  Windsor Locks, so it looks like renting a car might be the best option. I am staying in a hotel connected to the airport.. unless there is something (transportation wise) that would  be better to use!  Oh and I am open to commuting an hour/two (or so!) TIA! :)

Re: Visiting Windsor Locks area! Suggestions please!

  • There really isn't anything to do in Windsor Locks, so definitely rent a car.  You can get to downtown Hartford in 20-25 minutes where you could go to a musical at the Bushnell, a play at Hartford Stage, or visit any of the restaurants/bars downtown.  I'd recommend Hot Tomatoes (Italian) and Agave (Mexican) for restaurants.

My other suggestion would be to go to one of the casinos (Foxwoods or Mohegan), but that drive would be a lot farther.  I'm not sure how long it would take to get to them from the airport, though.

  • Definatly rent a car. Only buses and taxis for public transportation. If you want to go up to Springfield there is the Basketball Hall of Fame and the Dr. Seuss Museum. If you like hiking the Metacomet Trail is in East Granby (right behind the airport). And Talcott Mountain isn't far either. What time of year will you be here?
