How did you know or suspect that Declan may have reflux?? Im just curious because Nolan has been extremely fussy and i would say he is more then spitting up recently. TIA :)

Re: **Kristin**

  • It's not all about the spit-up...he was constantly arching his back during and after eating and then would start crying. And every morning at 5AM he would make these faces like something sour or bitter was in his mouth (like the acid coming up) and start choking.

Talk to your pedi about maybe trying Similac Sensitive RS first. It has added rice starch in it which helps stay down. Even when Declan was on Prevacid he still spit up a TON but didn't have any of the issues with the reflux bothering him. Oh and you can talk to your pedi about getting a wedge to put under Nolan's mattress. They sell them at BRU for like $15.

I really hope Nolan doesn't have reflux issues! It is awful to watch them in pain like that and not be able to do anything for them.

  • Thank you. Our 2 month appointment isnt for a few weeks but i think i will call and see if i can get him an appointment next week because hes been so fussy, i wondered if it could be colic too and i dont want to switch his formula without asking our doctor first. I hate seeing him be so fussy when i do everything i can to help soothe him and nothing helps :( Thank you again!!
  • It's tough to know what's really bothering them...but I would say if he's really fussy when eating and arching his back then it's worth it to talk about reflux with the pedi. Oh I agree you shouldn't switch formula until talking to the doctor...it's worth it to mention though.

It might be gas too. Have you noticed him being really gassy lately?

  • Yeah and he has problems burping and we do give him the gas drops which seem to help but i just dont know.

  • We used to burp after every oz and give drops. You can also bicycle his legs to help push the gas out. Or rub his belly in a clockwise motion. Those all seemed to help Declan for at least a bit. He had the triple whammy of gas, colic, and reflux all at the same time :)
