I'm looking at laptops and really don't know a lot about them.
I need it to do research, but the databases I use are all online, so mostly it's just that I tend to have a lot of websites open plus 3 Word documents. And my files get pretty large - at the end of a search I might have 20MB of documents.
The laptop I'm using right now has done OK, but not wonderful with having several large files and several websites open. (It's a company owned laptop and I have to supply my own now so I can't use it anymore)
It's specs are:
Hard drive 111GB
Intel Core2 Duo CPU
T7250 @2.00GHz
1.99 GHz, 1.99 GB of RAM
I just got that from the system properties and don't really know what it means. I do understand that those numbers are probably the minimum things I should look for in my new laptop, but I'm not sure which things will make it perform better for what I need. For example, I was looking at what Costco had and this one has an Intel Pentium Dual-Core Processor T4400 at 2.2GHz - does that matter? Is that better or worse than what I have?
And what brands are the best? I've only ever used Dell laptops, but I know nothing of other brands.
I'm also looking to keep this under $800, preferrably closer to $600.
Thanks for any advice.
Re: Help with laptop specs and brand recommendations
Important: Processor, the RAM (Memory), and HD
I am an Intel fan for the processor,
Minimum of 2GB of RAM for memory
7200 rpm for the HD write speed, and consider the HD space itself - 250 GB is norm.
Brands: lenovo/IBM are the best! HPs are good. I am partial to the Dell XPS model if you go the Dell route.
Good Luck.
"They say with time it gets better. Not true. With time you only get used to it."
I personally am not a fan of Dell. Dell and I never get along and almost every Dell I used never worked properly.
I've always been a fan of Sony Vaio, but they can be pricey if you just need it for internet and basic stuff. I'm an engineer in college, so I tend to have to run large programs that use a lot of resources and Sony's can do that without bogging down.
Also, my husband uses a Toshiba and my little sister has a toshiba. They tend to be a bit lower in price and are great computers.
Just my personal experiences. Hope it helps!
