I want to switch to the oil cleansing method, I really do. But I'm scared. I've fought with my skin for so long, and while it's not perfect, it's "OK" now... but I know that what I'm using isn't good for my skin, and I want my skin to be great, not just OK
However... I am going on vacation the first week of May, and I really don't want awful skin for it. How long did it take for your skin to adjust to not being scrubbed every day and balance out, using the oil cleansing method?
Re: Oil Cleansing Method
I have struggled with clear skin forever. I finally found a chemical-laden routine that worked for me. Then I tried OCM & my skin broke out badly (this was in Sept). My skin has not been the same since.
Sorry, not the response you were looking for, just my own personal experience. I know it has worked for other ladies on this board - maybe you'll be one of the lucky ones! I don't think you will really know until you try.
Just to clarify: I have very fair, sensitive, combo skin.
I, too, have had that ongoing challenge, which never improved with various products or prescriptions, until i tried OCM. I use about 20/80 castor oil/EVOO. I massage it in at night (removes makeup, though i don't wear much), then steam/lightly scrub it off with a washcloth. In the morning i just use the steamy washcloth. Still far from perfect, but so much better than with anything else i've used. My skin was softer from the first time i used it, and didn't require any adjustment period (started to improve visibly after 3 or 4 days). Also, it's never shiny/oily anymore.
I carry it in a tiny glass vial when i travel. I'd be afraid of anything else leaking.

everyone is different. i know some people on here love jojoba oil. i tried it and my skin broke out so bad. right now i used a facial cleanser from keys-soap.com and the OCM about once a week and to remove makeup on the rare occasion i wear it.
i use 50/50 castor/EVOO and when i have a breakout i use more castor oil. i don't think my skin liked it when i used it every day. but again everyone is different. and you have to make sure you remove all the oil when washing our your skin will breakout.
ETA: i do add a couple of drops of tea tree oil. and i just bought some chamomile oil i am going to use next time.
I use 25% castor /75% EVOO with some tea tree oil mixed in.
My skin was better from day 1. When I quit using the OCM, it slowly gets worse. I'm aiming for using the oil about every other day, once I get it cleared up again.
It's good to know what kind of skin problems you have and what causes them. In my case I'm allergic to a lot of random stuff and that makes me break out. I'm super sensitive to chemicals so using harsh cleaners was horrible for me. The moment I started using OCM my skin cleared up right away. I have to use sensitive make-up, too, or I'll break out.
But if your acne is caused by something else and chemicals work, you may be better off finding another routine. You may find that going "all-natural" isn't enough for you.
I really didn't have an adjustment period. I started with OCM during my 3rd trimester so that tells you a little something since I had raging hormones.
I tried EV coconut oil first and had amazing skin almost instantly. Then I tried it with grapeseed and castor oils- HUGE mistake. I broke out over the course of one night. I immediatly went back to coconut oil and things were healed with in three days or so!
I also use coconut oil, and had a problem with the grapeseed oil. The coconut oil works really well for me, but I've never really had a lot of skin issues.
