I know nothing about housewarming parties- never had one and never been to one. How long after we move in should we throw a housewarming? And what is the etiquette (guests, food, gifts, invitations)????? Any suggestions will help. Thanks
Re: Housewarming Party
I agree, it should be pretty soon after you move in. I think of it as being a pretty casual affair, so I think that email/evite/phone calls are fine for inviting guests. I wouldn't mention no gifts - people will bring you something anyway. As far as the number of guests - that is up to you and what your house can hold comfortably. I would have food and drinks for guests to nibble on. GL! Have fun!
I always thought that the etiquette on House Warming parties is that you shouldn't throw one for yourself...but it seems like that might be a bit out dated these days.
It seems to be many people do the come-as-you-wish plan where you have snacks and really just show off the house.
I myself have hosted two recently in which they were actual house parties that lasted until late night. In both cases, family came by early and then friends that wanted to hang out and drink stopped in later.
Congrats on buying a house and enjoy your party whichever way you decide to go!
I think if you call it an "Open House"... it sounds less like a gift grab and more like an informal get-together.
Good Luck and Cheers!
Ditto.
