How much should you spend on a shower gift if you are in the wedding?

Ditto Punky.  The bride knows you're likely spending a good amount to be in the wedding already, so just do whatever works for you and your budget.

Often times, the bridesmaids will all go in for a bigger gift on the registry and it ends up being a little cheaper than you would normally spend. Might be an option for you.

Every wedding I have been in we have picked the most expensive item and we all split it. I still get some little things to go with it but usually we split the big ticket items.

I agree with everyone that it is up to you, but as a reference, I spent about $50 on a shower gift for a wedding that I was in.  I figured I was also buying a wedding gift and spending money on a BM dress, etc.  But I think that going in on a bigger gift is a good idea!
