flowers and shrubs

my hubby and i are looking to really landscape this summer...but we have a small front and back yard...

we are in colorado...any shrubs or perennials that would be great to plant to enjoy a summer of flowering vibrant colors?

  • I'm not sure what zone you're in, but here (zone 5) I'm doing a mix of red & yellow twig dogwood in the front along the edge of the yard.  It's on the south/southeast side.  They look great in the summer and I love the colored twigs for fall/winter.

    A landscape consultant also recommended Dogwood 'Isanti" or Dwarf Lilac.

    Other options on our landscaping plan us are:  Blue Oat Grass, Shrub Rose, Crimson Pygmy Barberry.

    We're going to plant Feather Reed Grass or Heavy Metal Switch Grass against the house, behind the rose bushes.  It'll cover the foundation, and provide an interesting texture all year.
