Roosevelt Park, Edison question

We went there to look at it to see if we could have Max's bday party there...and it was a really nice park! I know I have to call to get a permit to reserve a picnic grove, but does anyone know if there is a covered gazebo that you can also "reserve?"

I really want to plan something outdoors if I can since his bday is in early June. I don't want to squeeze 20 people into my townhouse. Thanks, sorry for all the questions on parks lately lol.

  • Did you see my other response on this?  I don't know about gazebos, but a friend recently rented one of the log cabins there. She said it had a full kitchen so you could easily bring in food and cook it there.

A side note... another friend (someone in my mom's group) makes awesome cakes.  I'm going to totally toot her horn for her.  If you're interested, check her out at busybeecreationscakes.com.  They are sooo yummy!!

  • Thanks Rebecca, yes I did see your post, but I was hoping someone would know more about it before I call over there just so I dont sound like a loony bin or something, lol. I'd love to do a cake but I am going with simple Costco cupcakes for this, since we are having his family birthday party on his actual birthday, which is the next day (June 13). So he's getting two parties in one weekend, and I am not going all out this year. I am in the minority I think because I treat birthday parties differently (I do them as they were done for me when I was a kid, casual and nonfancy!). But thank you, if I ever need a good looking cake, I will check her out!!!!

  • I called four years ago to ask about reserving space for a party. I don't know if the person I spoke to was on drugs or if this is still the case, but they told me I couldn't reserve the exact spot -- someone would have to be there as early as 10 am, I think, and stay there all day to effectively squat it.

We did rent the log cabin for Astrid's first birthday party though, and that worked out remarkably well for us.

  • Where is the log cabin? I didn't see it. Could you give me a ballpark on how much the rental cost? Everything I am calling is at least $200...I just want to have a picnic outside and don't want to spend that kind of cash for 2 hrs.

  • The log cabin is part of Camp Kiddie Keep Well, and it definitely cost over $200 to rent (I want to say it was around $300, but I don't remember exactly).
  • I know Tricia used the log cabin for a couple occasions-page her!
  • Damn, ok thanks to all.

  • Check out Alvin P. Williams park in Sewaren (Woodbridge Twp) or Warren Park in Woodbridge proper. They both have gazebos.

Alvin P. Williams park is where my SIL has our niece's b-day party every year (3 yrs so far). Unless you want a liquor permit, it's definitely in your budget. hth

  • You might also consider Merrill Park in Woodbridge. They have a little enclosed farm animals thing there, too. (I called it a "thing" because it's not really a petting zoo.)

  • Have you considered renting out the club house in your development? I rented it out for Brian's 30th birthday. It was $100 ($500 security deposit that you get back). We were able to get in Friday night to decorate, party was Saturday, and we went back Sunday to finish cleaning up. Plus the kids could play on the playground.

It's $150 to rent the club house but I don't want to do it indoors, which is why I am having suhc a problem finding budget friendly outdoors places. I'm either doing the park or just forgoing it altogether.

Thanks for sharing the suggestion/experience of Alvin P. Williams park in Sewaren (Woodbridge Twp). Is it the picnic area or Gazebo where your relative had the B'day celebration ?
Did they book it in advance ?
I am also looking for place for my to be one year old !
    Your inputs would be helpful.
    Thanks !

Hi sorry I just saw this, as this post is 5 yrs old! But the parties we went to used the gazebo & nearby picnic tables. Then the kids played at the playground. The gazebo/tables was reserved in advance. HTH!
