Don't sprinkle it on your dog.  It is not safe to breathe in.  However, it is safe once it has settled into furniture, carpet, etc.  Sprinkle it on, then vacuum up two weeks later.  I found it at a local pet store.

And a note about it's efficacy: our cat had fleas when we got her, and between flea comb (fleas go into hot, soapy water) for her and diatomaceous earth for the apartment, we got rid of them without any chemicals.  We did use the flea comb two to three times a day every day for about two weeks.  The fleas did not come back.

You can dust your dogs with the food grade diatomaceous earth.  You just have to take care not to over do it, sort of rub it on, and do it outdoors so that the dog isn't getting the dust either.

Our local pet food store carries it.  I've seen it online, but haven't seen the food grade in stores.

Don't use the DE for pools.  It's not the same thing, and it is toxic for the pups (and you!)!  I found DE in big bags at my local nursery.  You might want to check feed stores around you, too!  GL!
