My boss just reminded me about us having a 4 day week this week. Actually, I am still coming in Friday so I can use my holiday for another time, but still it made me think about Easter coming up. What are your plans for this weekend? Does everyone have Friday off? Are you taking advantage of it?
Re: Easter Plans
Bah, I do not get Friday off. I wish. J and I were thinking of going to my house or his house for the weekend, but I think we may end up staying in NY. At first he didn't want to go to my house because he didn't want to make Easter "a thing" (his parents get really possessive over holidays and he didn't want to make Easter like that) but then he remembered that was stupid because we've spent last Easter with his family.
Anyway, I think we need to make a trip to my house later in April to get our car on the road so we'll probably just stay in NY. We're not religious so it won't be anything special.
I'm off Fri, but that's cause it is my normal 'off EO Friday'...
Heading to DH's mom's w the kids Fri-Sat and then to my mom's Sun... where I will partake in her Easter candy as she makes PB, coc cream, and butter cream eggs-yum! (and Jello Jigglers, but that's just for fun...)
Wow, I'm surprised so many places don't give Good Friday. Like I said, I'm working it. Easter isn't a big deal for us, but we love the family gathering and food of the holidays. Dh's cousin asked us to go to mass with her, so we're going in the morning. Then DH and I are cooking up a storm and having his cousin and her bf and our friends over.
Have any of you heard of/had Easter bread? I've told some people down here it's what I'm looking forward to the most and they had no idea what it was. Maybe it's an Italian thing -- I didn't know of it till I met DH?
P is working so I will be home by myself. I will probably make us a small lunch so that he can take some to work.
Depending on how nice it is I will clean up the yard and hang out with the dog.
I think it's a Polish or Slovak or Hungarian thing, too... (can't recall what our neighbors are...). We don't get into that, though, but ...ok, I googled it...
It's... Italian, Portugese, Bulgarian, Russian, Ukraine... Prob everyone has their version of it...
We're meeting the inlaws halfway between our house and theirs for dinner on Saturday (works out well b/c I have to go try on/pick out/get measured for my dress for my sister's wedding and the shop is near where we will be meeting them).
Sunday we'll go to church and probably go out for a nice lunch.
I get Friday off, but only because I always do with my 4x10 schedule.
DH has to work on Easter because a new batch of reservists is coming in and they have to get them trained and shipped out in 2 weeks. I asked him if it was against some sort of rule to work on Easter Sunday, but he just laughed and said "Not in the Navy."
So, I'll probably get up early and drive to Va Beach to go to church with my parents. We'll have a big, late lunch at their house, but I doubt DH will make it to that either. Oh well, I'll just bring him a plate of food.
OH! I need to call my family and find out if we're having a thing.
We don't get time off either, and its super annoying that I keep getting emails from our Europe offices saying: London will be closed Monday, Paris will be closed Monday, Milan will be closed Monday...
They get a day off!?!?! (And they get to live in London/Paris/Milan?!?!?!)
On a side note: It's especially annoying to get emails from our Tokyo offices. Tokyo will be closed Friday for Physical Fitness Day/Respect Your Elders Day/the Emperor's Birthday/Childrens' Day/Etc.
I swear they all get half the year off. US sucks in this regard.
I don't have friday off either but Easter is DH's birthday so it will be an extra special weekend!
I got him a couple parts for his car he's been wanting, and I'll probably get him some Easter candy that he loves.
Work changed our Good Friday holiday to a floating holiday about 3 years ago which I actually prefer. We don't celebrate Easter so I see no need in having a random Friday off for no reason. I save mine for Christmas or New Year's Eve usually depending on which day it falls.
We are however using the holiday as an excuse to have a crawfish boil at our place on Saturday. Yes, you are all invited.
