I first went on BC when I was 16 due to severe cramps that were dibilitating. I was on it until the wedding (10 years), because it was suggested by my GYN to give my body a break. Everything started off okay, but I've noticed as my periods were getting back to normal (after coming off BC) my cramps have come back, but not with such a vengance THANK GOD, Excedrine Menstral Relief seems to do the trick for the cramps and bloating along with a heating pad on my back. My issue now, I've very much noticed it especially this month is my irritablility. Every little thing gets on my nerves and I turn into Super B!tch. I was so rude and mean to M all weekend and felt terrible, but it felt like I couldn't control it. Yesterday I started my exercise routine / eating habits and after working out, I went to shower and just started crying, for no reason. Even today, I find myself cursing at everything, yet at the same time I feel like crying. I'm to the point where I'm just laughing about it. I'm starting to wonder if I just need to go back on the pill until we're ready to TTC.
Have any of you girls who have been on BC and came off of it noticed a change in your mood swings like this, or anything similar?
Re: Anyone else seem to have this issue?
If I am not adamant with taking my BC... I get moody, tired, cold, cranky, etc... like 2 days before... then, I realize what I've not done and have my 'aha!' moment... I have to take it or I suffer the SUPERCRAMPS!
I don't know if I can ever really go off of it. I would ask your doctor/gyno about it, though. If you don't have to suffer this stuff, then you shouldn't.
Hope tomorrow is better!
Yes, this is typical, especially as you are adjusting. I've gone on and off 4-5 times in my life. I'm about to go back on, I think.
A GYN recommended to me to take high doses of B6 (or any of the B's). It takes about a month to kick in, but it is a good mood stabilizer and stress reliever. When I take B6, I take 5000% daily requirement. I've tried BComplex, but it's too much energy and I get racing thoughts. Everyone is different, though.
Yes. I went off BC for my surgery and haven't gone back on yet. Suddenly I remember why I hated being a women so much when I was a teenager. The cramps are awful and I definitely have more serious mood swings. I remember in college (before BC) I used to get INTENESELY depressed the day before my period. Now I tend to get weepy and emotional and I'm easily irritated.
Because of all this, I'm seriously considering going back to the pill or getting an IUD with hormone.
I just went back on the pill for this reason. I went off it about a year ago for similar reason. I just started back on this month for all the things you were saying. I figure I'll go off again when we're ready for TTC.
Aria - I agree with what you said about B6. When my mom was on BC she would get horrible headaches. The doctor told her to take B6 because BC actually depletes it from a womans body. Now my mom is going through the change and no longer takes BC but the doctor still recommends B6 for all the reasons you said.
Thanks for the input ladies. I really feel like I'm losing my mind. I take a Multi Vitamin daily (One-A-Day Womens), maybe I need to take more B6?
I have general anxiety any ways, but seems to multiply tremendously when AF is knockin'. I'm hoping this work out regemin I have worked out for myself helps with all of this.
THIS!!!! My hormones are crazy, so even on bcp I was pms-y. This works really well, whether it's b!tchiness or crying at the drop of a hat (which I did, in the middle of the grocery store, in the baking aisle).
