DIY liquid laundry detergent questions

So I finally made some liquid laundry detergent on Thursday, and I have two questions:

1) The directions said after 24 hours it would gel.  It didn't.  Okay, not really a question, just an observation.

2) When I pour 1/2 cup of this non-gelled detergent into the wash water, it doesn't suds.  At all.  Is it supposed to?

I think I did something wrong!  Sad

Re: DIY liquid laundry detergent questions

  • 1) I don't think it will completely gel, but it shouldn't be very watery.

    2) mine didn't suds

  • Mine has never turned to gel. It does get a solid-ish layer on top that I stir in before using. It should not suds, or if it does, there should be very little.

  • Okay, thanks for the input!  I went ahead and used it when I washed sheets earlier today, so we'll see how they turn out.
