Nom nom nom bananas!!

I finally noticed that Whole Food's Whole Trade bananas are also Fair Trade certified! Woo hoo! And you can buy organic!

(Sorry Whole Foods, I don't take self-proclaimed certifications seriously enough to eat your bananas on Whole Trade basis. Fair trade, yay!)

  • I noticed this last week!  They were heavily advertising the "Fair Trade"...very cool.
  • My CSA will include little goodies like Fair Trade Organic bananas in our shipments. Always a fun little bit!

  • Welcome to my yummy banana side of the world Big Smile

We actually forgot bananas today at WF...have to go back tomorrow for some.

  • Yum!  I am probably stopping by WF for lunch, and I hope that they have some.
  • Yummy!  I've gotten so used to not looking at the banana pile for fear I'll just have to buy some that I didn't even notice that at Whole Foods on Sunday.  That's good news!

I also don't trust their "Whole Trade" label.  Too vague.  If you're really doing what you say you're doing, why isn't it certified Fair Trade, a label that actually means something?  "Whole Trade" gets the Confused from me.

  • I'd like to find out more about the various WF 'certifications'. I think they have some for fish as well. I am distrustful of a company's own certifications, but I just got back and at the register there was a sign about their 'responsibly farmed' designation that said it was 3rd party certified. I could understand having the Whole Trade designation for which there is no Fair Trade certification (only certain products can be judged), but I don't really know much at all about the Whole Trade program.

  • My co-op carries the fair trade organic bananas! They sell so freaking quickly. I have to pretty much wait at the door until they open when they get a shipment in.

On another note, I always thought you were totally anti-banana :P I didn't know that organic fair trade ones were acceptable!

  • I just bought fair trade organic bananas from my local coop this week. i haven't had bananas in months and I was really surprised at how much better they tasted!!

Nah, I just hate the industry, not the fruit! (That makes me think of hate the playa' not the game lol). I do wish they'd cultivate more varieties for market, like apple bananas, but that's really all I can gripe about once its organic and fair trade.
