Just curious to know what you're starting from seed and when...
I'd love to plant tomatoes, herbs, and a few other veggies, but I'm not sure when to start them from seed indoors and when to start hardening them off and then planting into the garden.

Re: Anyone starting seeds AND in Wisconsin?
For tomatoes, peppers, etc., they should have been started earlier this month. Most seeds need to be started about 6-8 weeks before last frost (it will say when on the package). Our last frost date in SE WI is late April/early May.
Some seeds should be direct sown - beans, cucumbers, peas, etc. When to sow those depends on the days to maturity, hardiness, etc. In general, though, we're planting ours around Mother's Day. We'll be doing tender transplants (tomatoes, peppers, etc.) around Memorial Day weekend.

Shoot. Sounds like I already missed the boat...I just need something to keep me occupied at the moment and was hoping that tending to tiny seeds in dirt would do it.

You could try. They may just produce later than normal. If you do, try with some early producing cultivars (i.e. for tomatoes, Early Boy is a good, solid producer in this area).

I certainly don't think you missed the boat with tomatoes! I'm in NW WI and don't plan on putting mine out in the garden for another 4 weeks. Even if you started seeds this weekend, you could get them out in the ground before the middle of May and be just fine.
I also have lettuce and herbs starting in containers. I plan to sow lettuce directly in a few weeks and probalby will sow every week or so for a month, just to try to get the most out of the lettuce season!
