It's a Catch 22

The mulch and leaves are great for keeping the soil moist around my plants, but they also are a great place for the snails that have infested my gardens to hide. Any suggestions? I've used the snail/slug bait, but I was wondering if there is a more permanent or obvious solution that I am missing? I definitely need the mulch in the hot south climate, so I'm open to any and all suggestions.

  • I have a slug problem with my hostas.  Easy solution ... crushed eggshells.  Their soft bodies don't like the sharp shells.  Any time we have eggs, I just crush up the shells and sprinkle them around where my hostas are.  Works like a charm.
