Lemon juice in rinse aid?

I was thinking (I'm new TN and to this board) but could you put lemon juice in the rinse aid of a dishwasher? I would imagine the smell would be more appealing then vinegar but the acid will still clean the dishes. Has anyone tried this or am I totally late to the party?

Re: Lemon juice in rinse aid?

  • i don't see why not... I have read that people put EO in the detergent. I have never had a problem with vinegar smelling.

  • I've never had a problem with vinegar smelling.  Plus a jug of it is like $2, I can imagine using lemon juice as a rinse aid would get pretty expensive.  I know the large bottles at my grocery store are $3-4, and they're like a third of the size of the $2 vinegar jug.

ForgetMe, I PPH that commercial!  It's hysterical.  I have a TiVo and I rewind just to watch it.

  • I've never smelled the vinegar in the machine. It gets SO diluted in there.

  • You can use citric acid in powder form.  We actually buy a citric acid product that is packaged as a dishwasher rinse aid.

Vinegar works great and doesn't smell...I just prefer the convenience of the powder to an unwieldy big bottle of vinegar (which I do use for other things).
