Easter baskets

What does everyone use for Easter baskets? I don't want to use the typical plasticy baskets that you can get at Walmart etc. Any EF options?

Re: Easter baskets

  • Check thrift stores for Easter baskets or even regular baskets.
  • Also... with my skids, we use the same basket every year. So I bought one nice basket when they were little and we reuse it.

  • Growing up my parent re-used the same baskets every year.  Now they're family herlooms.  We used mine to hold the petals for our flower girl at our wedding Big Smile  I would try thift stores, or any decorating store like Home Goods should have plenty of non-plastic ones.

  • We used the same one's too as a kid (I think my parents still have mine). It was a basket and I think it was painted pink or purple or something like that.

I wonder if they have hand made one's at the market?

  • Just like our Christmas stocking, we used the same Easter Basket each year.  They were nice wicker ones that my mom would tie a pretty bow onto the handle each year.

We still haven't figured out what we are doing for kiddo yet, but it will probably be something along the same tradition.

  • We used the same one's every year, and my mom painted them to match our Easter dresses and tied a pretty bow.  She's crafty like that, though!  :)

PS- I said used, but really it should be use.  I'm almost 30 and married and my mom still makes me an Easter basket.  She said she might stop when she has grandbabies to spoil, but I honestly don't see it happening! LOL

  • The one in my siggy was my Easter basket from my first Easter (and many more after that). I decorated it with some ribbons, and reused it for MY babies (my buns). I think it looks much nicer than those fugly bright plastic and cheap wicker ones at Walmart or something.

Maybe see if someone in your family/group of friends has any old baskets? I know lots of my aunts have a bunch of baskets that they've gotten over the years, and just save because they don't really have anything to do with them. You can spruce them up with some paint or ribbons or flowers and a hot glue gun.

  • The Easter Bunny doesn't fill baskets....he (or she) delivers them.Stick out tongue

I used reusable things for my kids. Like storage containers, tote bags....stuff like that.  I either wrapped them in cellophane like regular Easter baskets, or just added a ribbon to the whole thing.

My mom did this too and she'd fill it with other things besides just candy. One year I got a set of pjs with chicks on them. One year I got jewelry. She always put in things that would last.

  • You can pick up a basket at a thrift store. You could even paint it if you wanted to spruce it up. You can also get fabric Easter baskets that you can re-use.
