Ideas for Cinco de mayo party?
I want to host a Cinco de mayo party and need ideas for food! We will have a fajita/taco bar, chips/salsa/queso dip, margaritas, and coronas. What other sides can we serve? What about dessert?
I also think we will do an adult pinata- lottery tickets, mini liquor bottles, etc.
Any other cool ideas for a cinco de mayo theme?
TIA!
Re: Ideas for Cinco de mayo party?
Stand up for something you believe in.
Rice and beans are classic sides of course. But you could also get corn on the cob and grill it with a spicy chipotle butter for a veg. If you are doing things as a buffet( which I think would make fajitas harder to eat without making a mess) then you could always take the corn off the cob after cooking.
Dessert there is flan, Mexican Chocolate Cake, Mexican vanilla ice cream, churros.... I would get flan from a Mexican place that delievers as it's hard for it to come out perfectly. Churros you can sometimes find in the freezer section and all you'd have to do is fry them.
As for the adult pinata- obviously, make sure the mini bottles aren't glass.
When it comes to other party game ideas, I'm not too sure. When we celebrate Cinco De Mayo it's mostly talking and drinking. Play some good music- classic stuff like Vicente Fernandez or Los Tigres Del Norte or with more of a dance feel you can do Daddy Yankee, Don Omar, Tego Calderon, Calle 13. Dominos is something we usually play too. it's a lot of fun.
Hope that helps
when i had a potluck fiesta bday party, i sent the invitation out in spanish, to set the tone. it was easy enough to read, but you can alway print a translation in small print at the bottom.
we had a quesadilla bar, we had found that me, my sil, and my aunt all had quesadilla makers, so we all brought them and set up a bar of fillings and toppings. people were able to chose if they wanted soft tacos or a quesadilla. someone also brought tortilla chips and nacho cheese so some people had nachos.
btw, i love the adult pinata idea. you can have little bunches of tealight candles, mini $1 bath stuff. not sure what to do for the fellas tho...
