Those with a snoring SO...

How do you deal with it?

I get SOOOOOO frustrated! We have tried naturopathic throat sprays, him sleeping on his stomach or side, pillows, breathe right strips, nose clips, me wearing ear plugs, me going to bed a few hours earlier than DH so I would be in a deep sleep when he came to bed...nothing really works! And he is resistant to going to the Dr. He said he knows many people who have and they have not been given any solutions.

Once DS was born I kicked DH out to the guest room. There was no way I was getting up 4-5 times a night and then not be able to fall back asleep once I got to bed.

Re: Those with a snoring SO...

  • TV.  I have a few seasons of shows that I really like that I don't have to pay attention to.  It's enough of a distraction that I don't think about the snoring but not so much of a distraction that I can't fall asleep.

  • Joe went to a sleep clinic and in the morning the guy said to him "wow I have never seen results like this before. You are going to have to come back because you didn't sleep enough to get us any information". He snores so loudly that he constantly wakes himself up.

I use the elbow in the back technique. Sometimes I works and he rolls into a position where he doesn't snore. Other times nothing works and I get so frustrated that he gets up to sleep on the couch.

  • I am the snoring SO....  I get elbowed, rolled over, woken up, and when its really bad (i.e. when either of us are sick or have something important going on) I get sent to the spare bedroom.

  • We've done all those things, and my husband went to the doctor and got a camera shoved down his throat. They said they can't do anything- no obstructions, no sleep apnea, nothing to fix. He just snores. Loudly.

I just give him a shove and tell him to roll over. That often stops him for a while. If he's having a particularly bad night one of us will sleep on the couch.

  • Ear plugs :)

DH doesn't snore super loudly, only when he's extremely exhausted or has been drinking that night. Usually I'll give him a good elbow or something so he changes sleep position.

I can be a pretty heavy sleeper though, so most of the time I won't even hear him. I'm glad he doesn't snore like his mom or my mom...man, they can both take the roof off the house!

  • DH has been in the guest room for six months! It makes me sad, but, even down the friggin' hall his snoring wakes me up! It just got to a point where I didn't consider it fair that I never had a good nights sleep. I tried everything, sprays, earplugs, those industrial ear muffs (*with* earplugs! lol), nose strips, natural remedies...nothing worked. I should mention, though, that part of DH's issue with snoring was created by a signifigant weight gain. I think if he lost some of the weight, he'd notice a difference. Buuuut, he's lazy!
  • It only seems to happen to DH when he sleeps on his back, so like Jen, I elbow him in the back, and he rolls over - no more snoring... but he's not a big time snorer.

Good luck! I know it can be awful.
