peony Q

I bought a potted 'Sarah Bernhardt' peony plant last year and transplanted it in the fall. Soon after all the leaves and branches dried and fell off so I assumed it died completely (and not just because winter was coming, b/c of the branches snapping off). This spring, in the spot where I planted it, I can see "tubers" (?) and some red "eyes" at the surface of the dirt. Do you think it will make a comeback?

Re: peony Q

  • Yes, peony's are tender perennials and die completely back every year.
  • It's coming back! Peonies are really hard to completely kill.
  • It will come back. When it does start growing and has buds you will see a bunch of ants...(dont kill the ants) its natural and ok for the plant..also dont be sad if there aren't a lot of flowers this year, every year it will get bigger and bigger..mine almost doubles in size every year. It's such a beautiful flower!!
