Invitation spin off: Evite vs. Mailed Invite

As you may have seen in the post below, I am planning a party for my husband and was considering mailing invititations because I thought that it would send a message that this is a more upscale event. However a friend said its kinda archaic. What is your take on sending an evite vs mailed invitations and which do you prefer?

Re: Invitation spin off: Evite vs. Mailed Invite

  • I am not opposed to evites but would much rather receive an invite in the mail.

Keep in mind I am a person who sends out Birthday Cards, Cards for all of the Holidays and Thank You cards:-)

  • Unless it's a casual get together I prefer a paper invite.
  • The invitation sets the tone.  If you want something more upscale and special, mail the invites.

    Ditto.

I agree.  I'm totally not against evites, but I don't think I would get an "upscale" feel from an evite.  In fact, I recently went to a party where evites were sent out.  And when I got there, I was surprised (and under-dressed) for the type of party that it was. Just food for thought.

  • I don't really care for evites, but I don't give it the side eye either.  It doesn't have a bearing on if I go or not, but as a pp mentioned, I think of it as being a very casual bbq or last minute get together or a birthday.  If you want swank and upscale, I'd send out the invites.  I wouldn't let your friend make you feel like you are doing something wrong.

  • I agree with others. Send out an invitation if it is more upscale. But evites are fine if you are throwing just a little get together and rather informal.

    This.

    This.

  • I do paper invites for everything I host, but I just love getting them in the mail. My friends give me crap for it, when I host parties for the they always tell me to send out evites...nope, if I am hosting I am picking and usually making the invites. It is such a special part of the party I think.
  • i usually make invitations to everything, it sets the tone, and gives me a chance to show off my papercrafting skills.

i am however doing an Earthday themed game day next month, we will be doing E-vites to go along with the theme. my gamedays are usually more casual.

    ditto pps

  • Unless it's the most casual type of event (neighborhood BBQ, potluck dinner, maybe a kids birthday party) then I really dislike evites.  Call me old fashioned, but I'll stick to mailed invitations for the parties I host.
  • I love the idea of paper invites.  If I had everyone's mailing address, I'd probably always use them!  An in-between option is paperlesspost.com. You email a "paper" invite-- like it looks just like a paper invite, but it's just a picture of it.  I'm thinking of doing a combo of that plus snail mail for an upcoming party, since for some people I have email addresses only.
