Any gardeners out there?

I do mostly container gardening - since we rent. I may branch out to a square foot garden this year - haven't decided yet. I started a bunch of seedlings last week - nearly all have sprouted!

Here's what I've got so far:

Re: Any gardeners out there?

  • That's so funny because my husband just got bit by the gardening bug last weekend and has started setting up a small garden in the yard. He's starting with cucumbers, green peppers and tomatoes. Neither of us has a very green thumb so we'll see how it goes. Your stuff looks great especially the strawberries!!!

  • How cool! What part of Orlando are you guys in? If I have any sucess with my plants - I'd love to trade. We're in Clermont - near 50 and 455.

My heirloom tomatoes have just started to sprout, but my cukes haven't sprouted yet. I have some peppers I started from the seed of a particularly good pepper we had a few weeks ago - so I'm hoping for some success there.

  • My husband and I are container gardeners! We typically plant the following items each year:

    • Basil
    • Parsley
    • Cilantro
    • Mint
    • Thyme
    • Green Onions
    • Chives
    • Cherry Tomatoes
    • Beef Stake Tomatoes
    • Jalapenos
    • Bell Peppers

All-in-all we've been very successful. I am planning on getting my seedlings started for the basil, chives, jalapenos, and bell peppers this week. The green onions I simply cut about an inch off (leaving the root) after i'm done cooking with them and plant them directly into the dirt... they will regenerate and grow for months... once they are pretty much done growing (4-5 life cycles) I pull out the onion bulb and use it for cooking! I also regenerate the mint and oregano. I'll take a clipping from my in-law's house and plant it in the dirt! After a few week's it will root and i'm all set!

good luck and we should all check in--in another month to see how our progress is going!

  • I am trying to garden this season. I have a HUGE yard that I wanted to do a squarefoot garden. Right now i'm container gardening brocolli, arugula, and cherry tomatoes. Also, parsley, oregano, and basil.

I really want to plant, and use some of yard, but i'm afraid it'll be a money pit :(

     Any advice would be wonderful!

  • Well you already sound like you are doing great! I say just jump in a try it. The $$ investment for a square foot garden is under a hundred in most cases.
