Update on appointment

Thank you so much for listening to me during my mini-freak out and for being so sweet yesterday.  It helped so much knowing I had a great group of girls out there supporting me - it felt like you were holding my hand through my jitters at the doctor's office Smile

My appointment with the ENT was exactly what I was hoping for and expected back when I went to my first appointment with the General Practitioner.  The ENT was such a kind, gentle man and really listened to me talk about my symptoms and my concerns about the GP and her "diagnosis".  He was kind of flicking his pen and nodding his head the whole time I was talking.  When I said that the GP thought it could be one of the big "L"s, his eyebrows raised and he stopped flicking his pen, but only for a second and then went back to nodding.  He didn't say anything about the GP, but I could tell from his reaction that he was surprised or something.  The GP was absolutely rediculous for saying what she did without really having anything of substance to base it on and get me worried and scared.

He really took his time asking questions, feeling around on my neck, head and ears.  He said he thinks it is a cyst or a swollen lymph node.  The GP was so sure it wasn't a cyst - ha!  And he doesn't think it is anything serious and hopefully at the most would probably be something benign - yay!  He said that, of course, he coudn't know for sure without further testing.  He did a needle biopsy which was much simpler and relatively pain free than I thought it would be.  I actually thought was kind of interesting to see what he extracted and asked the nurse to see the needle and syringe - she looked at me like I was crazy :)

We should have the lab results next Tues or Wed.  I feel confident that the results will be okay.  The ENT will most likely go ahead and remove the lump and send off for further testing to be on the safe side.

So...it was a good visit and the DW vibes worked their magic again!

Re: Update on appointment

  • That's great news, Danielle!

I think the fact that he was able to extract something from it is positive in itself.  I had a lump in my left breast 6 years ago and when the dr went to extract something from it with a needle, he wasn't able to.  This lead to an ultrasound and subsequently surgery.  Luckily, it turned out not to be cancerous.

  • I am so happy to hear your appointment went much better than with the crazy GP doctor!  Sending you lots more healthy and benign biopsy results!
  • That is good news. I hope all turns out well for you.
  • That's fantastic news! I'm so happy that this new doctor put your mind at ease and everything sounds okay.
  • Great news Danielle!
  • that's good news!

I just read your original post. Let me start by saying how much I hate doctor's. I think most of them don't know what the F they are talking about b/c they don't take the time to really listen to your concerns & sypmtoms.

I've had a post nasal drip problem for almost 2 years now due to some sort of allergy, but it has taken me 2 years to figure that much out. I went to 2 different GP's and an ENT, and racked up a ton of doctor bills! Unfortunately my insurance won't cover me to get allergy testing, so I'm just living with it.

Anyway.....I wound up with a lump on my neck one day and it totally freaked me out!! my doc acted the same way, saying it could be anything, they weren't really sure, yada yada....then I went to the ENT b/c I didn't like that answer and come to find out it was a swollen lymphnode. I completely relate with the feeling..it wasn't soft, but it wasn't hard. It hurt to touch it and if you fooled with it too much my whole neck & shoulders would KILL! to the point where I couldn't even move my neck at all! horrible!

Well, I hope you get some better answers than me and are able to get to the bottom & cause of what's going on!! GL!! Keep us posted!!
