Whoa...moment of panic!

So...I'm sitting here watching TV on the couch in the living room, waiting for dinner to be ready, and all of the sudden I hear my front door start to open, the handle starts to turn, and I FREAK OUT! Dh is out of town until Mon, so there is NO ONE I'm expecting (because honestly I don't know that many people.) I see a tall head (our door has two small windows up top) and the person stops and walks away. Callie barks like crazy, I run and open the door to see what/who the hell that was...while yelling "Whoa whoa whoa!!! Excuse ME!!!!!!"

Turns out it was my neighbors dad. Had the wrong condo. He felt SOOOOO bad!

Reminder to myself to deadbolt the door at all times.

My heart is still racing!!

Re: Whoa...moment of panic!

  • Oh, that's so scary!  That happened once in our apartment in Boston.  Some random people just walked right in while we were watching TV.  We started locking the deadbolt after that.

I'm so glad we did; the last month we were there I was up late and Jeff was in bed.  I heard people fighting, and then "POLICE!  OPEN UP!" and someone running down the hall.  And then someone started jiggling our doorknob.  I grabbed the cats and ran into the bedroom and locked us all in there.

It was!  I woke Jeff up because I was freaked out.  We lived in a nice complex in a nice area, too, which made it that much weirder.

  • Scary!  DH is out of town a lot, so having my alarm system (Rambo) makes me feel so much safer.

  • That would scare the bejeesus out of me!  It's a very safe area we live in, but we still have to lock our doors.  And we have an extra security system at our house and I'm still freaked out if I see someone walk by at night.

  • That is so scary!! We had that happen a couple of times while living in apartments, so I make sure to ALWAYS have the deadbolt locked.. Our current front door will open on its own if the back door is open (I think it's an air flow/air vacuum issue?) and it always freaks me out!

  • Has never happened to me but I can just imagine totally freaking out.... esp if I was alone.  Note to self:  Lock deadbolt!! :)
  • H had that happen the other day, except he was expecting it to be me.  He called out "hon...?...Laura, is that you...?"  Then walked to the front door in time to see our neighbor's contractor turn bright red and run out the door.  I'm not surprised he turned red; not only did he have the wrong house, but H was in his boxers!
  • Holy crap I just saw this! Glad you're ok! But, I'm also glad that dude is ok, bc if it had been Leo, I'm not sure he would have survived. Yikes! Your dog must have sensed he was just a confused dude, lol.
