Re: Fun site to check out

  • Fun quiz! One of my top 5 is my hometown of Shreveport, Louisiana! Which is funny because I hated it when I lived there. Vowed never to move back. Still would never move back
  • 1. Danbury Ct.

    2. Cambridge Mass.

    3. Norwalk-Stamford Ct.

    4. Cape Cod Mass.

    5. Ventura Ca.

  • Funny, Danbury was my #1 and Hartford was my #2.  Does anyone know anything about those areas?  I've been told I don't want to live in Hartford because of crime - but is that like DC - I wouldn't live in DC, but the 'burbs are nice?  Essex,CT was also on that list. It looked so cute!  It seems as though CT is the place we should live!  It has always just struck me as being so expensive (and at this point we need/want a single family home with a yard - and not another townhouse.)

We've tossed around living in Providence. We went to visit last year - but it was a hard trip to gauge that with 2 14 month olds! ;)

  • My top 4 were

    1. Little Rock, Arkansas (no, never)
    2. Baltimore MD (Brother lives there has been trying to get me to come for 3 years)
    3. Providence, RI (Never been there looks nice)
    4. Baton Rouge, Louisiana (Nice to visit but I don't think thats for me either)

Its funnt because I have visited many of the places on my list, I was sad that I didn't see LA, I did have a few CA on my list. Everytime we go to LA I always say I was born to live here. I guess for now I will enjoy where I am at.

  • Apparently I'm a Cali girl. ;-) Top two were SoCal, second two were Hawaii and the last was Louisiana (??).

  • 2brides - i know a lot about danbury and hartford, i've lived in CT my entire life :)

the crime in hartford is high (comparable to any city) but, the suburbs are fantastic, especially when it comes to school systems.  DW and i just purchased a house in newington which is 10 minutes outside of hartford and we adore it. Danbury is also a city with a fair amount of crime, but the smaller cities/towns around it are nice and you have the bonus of being close to NYC for cultural experiences, jobs, ect.  Feel free to page me with any other questions!

  • Portland, OR (I've heard good things about this place)

    Little Rock, AR (um, no)

Honolulu (probably no, if sheerly for the holiday airfare...and housing prices!)

Albuquerque, NM (hm, I might be game)

    Las Vegas (um, no...)

Appearently I answered something "wrong"...though Portland sounds reasonable!

  • Thanks! :)

I think it will be awhile more before we can move (L is going to finish her PhD) but we are scoping out our options.  Is it feasible to buy something in the 'burbs with a good/great school system for 350k-400k.  We need 3 (preferably 4) bedrooms, 2.5 ba, a yard, about 2000-2500sq, in a nice community.  I looked online and it looks like that it is an option, but it is hard to tell since we don't really know the suburbs. :)

    How far is NYC?

  • that price range is definitley do-able for a nice home in a nice neighborhood outside of Hartford, although I dont think you'd find what your looking for in that price range outside of Danbury.  Southern CT is considerably more expesive than central and northern CT because its closer to NYC.

NYC is probably 2 - 2 1/2 hours from hartford driving although most people would just drive to new haven and take the train into the city.  Its definitley an easy day trip though. Boston is even closer if you are coming from hartford.
