Today, I was weeding a small flower bed (put in last fall) and found termites in the wood mulch (hardwood mulch). The bed is against the house, but at least 3 feet of foundation separate the ground and where the siding starts.
Is there anything we can DIY that won't hurt my plants? Or do I need to call an exterminator? Termites normally aren't a big problem in this area.
Re: Termites in wood mulch
We had termites in our mulch, too, and all we did was pull the mulch back from the foundation about a foot and put sand in the naked strip next to the house. Termites can't build tunnels in sand, (and they don't like being out in the open), so that keeps them away from the house.
We did this 6 years ago and have no termite damage to our house.
