police academy grad party ideas

DH is graduating from the police academy in June, and I'd like to host a graduation party for him.  I am looking for some ideas on how to make it police-themed party, but not over the top or like a kids' party.  It would be a bbq with a large number of attendees, and I was thinking of having boxes of doughnuts as one of the desserts, and maybe using police tape here and there, but that's all I've got.  Any ideas?  TIA!

Re: police academy grad party ideas

  • You could decorate with items such as fake handcuffs.  If you were wanting something more subtle you could get plates, cups, etc in the colors of the uniform.
  • Does he have a contract yet with an agency? I would incorporate colors from the agency/uniforn as pp mentioned.

I like the doughnut idea, crime scene tape.

What about a police line up and mug shot, fingerprints station, chalk outline, fake badges/handcuffs. Thats all I got, and its not all that good :)

Good luck! When my DH graduated from the academy we just catered Mexican food, so your party sounds like it will be a lot of fun!

  • How about going with "There's a new Sheriff in town" and having like western/saloon theme.  BBQ goes with that.

I see what you mean about it not being too kid-like.  But I think badges and fake mustaches might actually be fun for adults.  GL!

I do like the donuts and police tape ideas though.

  • Instead of tablecloths use kraft paper--or black rolled construction paper.... do chalk outlines of place settings, platters, etc. Be creative.

I love the donuts as dessert...perfect idea.

Design your menu with fun names: Sticky Fingers Wings, Bandit BBQ, Solitary Slaw, etc.

the tape is cute, and traffic cones would work too. So would the flashing lights (I don't know what they're called)

  • Everyone gave such great ideas! My husband is a police officer and when he graduated one of the funniest gifts was a DVD of the South Park Episode where Cartman in a police man on his big wheel. He also got a matching Tshirt that was cute. It would be fun to play that episode in the background at the party, and look for some police Cartman props to add to the decorations.

Congrats to your husband, you must be really proud :o
