Sorry it's taken me so long to get back regarding Disney.

As  far as rides - make sure you know how to use the Fastpass system. That will save you lots of time.   http://www.wdwinfo.com/wdwinfo/fastpass.htm

In Magic Kingdom - the rides that get the longest waits are for Space Mountain, Thunder Mtn, Splash Mtn (in warmer months!), Dumbo (since it takes so long to load/unload), Peter Pan, Buzz Lightyear, and Jungle Cruise.  The stuff in Fantasyland (Peter Pan, Dumbo, It's a Small World, Snow White, etc) are great even without kids. Classic Disney. My favs are Pirates of the Carribean, Haunted Mansion, Thunder and Space Mtns, Buzz, and Carousel of Progress (purely for nostalgic reasons - but it is a great place to rest your feet!)

In Epcot - Soarin' and Test Track are the big rides. You HAVE to get a fast pass to Soarin ASAP - in busy times they are given out by 11-12 and the wait can easily be 90-120 minutes. Both are great rides.  Spaceship Earth (the big ball) tends to get a wait early in the day when the park opens since it is the first thing people see - but go back later and you'll walk on.  Ellen's Energy Adventure is okay - but really long. Like 45 minutes. But you sit  - so if you need to rest/cool off it is good for that.  I haven't riden the Mission Space Green - but I did ride Mission Space Orange last time we were there and thought I would die.  Think Gravitron from a fair with lots of themeing.  *barf*  World Showcase opens later. Mexico and Norway have rides in them. Most of the others have movies - most of which don't really excite me.  But it is fun to walk around, get drinks from the various countries, and explore (walk back into the countries to get away from the beaten path.)

Animal Kingdom - It is my least fav park.  Expedition Everest is the big/popular ride here. Also behooves you to get a fastpass. The sarafi is best in the morning - before the animals are tired of being oogled at and hide.  The Lion King show is great.

Hollywood Studios - Toy Story Mania is the big ride here - think Soarin. You have to get a fastpass ASAP.  Tower of Terror is also popular (and fun.)

Let me know if you want food suggestions.  Have you made any reservations?

Have fun - I am so jealous. :)

  • Thanks, you are so incredibly awesome! I think I'll probably save hours on waiting time from your two paragraphs. You rock!

I actually just made dining reservations yesterday. It feels very strange to do that so far in advance (I know 2 weeks isn't much to most people) and I'm curious to see how it will feel to have our day somewhat structured.

Our first day, we're going to dinner somewhere in Downtown Disney with E's aunt. No idea where, and would love advice. We're having lunch at Liberty Tree Tavern in Magic Kingdom our first full day and dinner at Jiko that evening. The plan is to head to Animal Kingdom for half of the day...it's the part E is most excited about. She's scared of roller coasters. Too cute!

We're taking a day off from the parks and having dinner at Wolfgang Puck Cafe. I may change that and go back to the animal kingdom lodge for some more animal-time for E.  Then we're spending a day in Epcot. I haven't made restaurant reservations b/c there just seemed to be too many factors to consider and many vegetarian-friendly counter-service options. I welcome any advice or critique on my random plans.

Anyway, as I mentioned earlier, you rock. I've been having fun playing on the disboards...thanks for the suggestion. I'll definitely update y'all on the trip when I  I get back so you can live vicariously through my stories!

  • I haven't eaten at many of the sit down places in Downtown Disney.  I do love Earl of Sandwich and Wolfgang Puck Express for quick meals.

My experience with Liberty Tree has been iffy. But I do think that they have brought back character dining to that location which is fun.  My only thought is that eating at a table service  for lunch and dinner will take out a lot of your park day - but then again I am a comando park person and hate to 'waste" my time eating! :)   It may be too late to get a reservation - but you could try to get a breakfast reservation at the Crystal Palace in the Magic Kindgom for first thing in the morning and then they'll let you in before the park opens. It is pretty cool to walk down Main St alone! :)  I haven't eaten at Jiko - but heard it is awesome!

Epcot has a ton of places in the World Showcase. The chinese place (9 Dragons is ehhh), France is good, Canada has awesome chedder cheese soup, the ambience in Mexico is great - but the food isn't so great.  I've heard great things about Morraco. You can't go wrong! :)

Sanna at Animal Kingdon Lodge and has big windows overlooking the Savannah.

Also keep in mind that you can always talk to the chef about any dietery needs (vegetarian, etc) and they will work with you to either find something on the menu or create something. :)

    Have a wonderful time!
