I am looking to buy a new laptop and of course will need much of my software on the new computer. I cannot find the cds for a few of the programs on my current laptop. Is there a way to easily transfer the programs from one computer to the other without having the cds?

Re: Software Q
Not really. I suppose it's possible that when you installed them from CD originally, an .exe file was left on your hard drive. You can't just copy and paste program files from your old hard drive to your new computer though.
Out of curiosity, what programs do you envision having this problem with? Many typical programs like iTunes, Winzip, Picasa, Adobe, etc. can be downloaded online. Are you referring to Windows or Office? For those, the critical step is activating the license on the new PC. The only things I normally have to install from CD are specialized work-related programs.
