I'm off a week before going back to work (enjoying an extended staycation while the hubby went back). Its been nice going through the gifts with him and reorganizing our kitchen space to accommodate the goods. I've also been going through the rigamarole of changing my name. Thankfully the government offices (dmv/passport/social security) are very clear on what they expect and went through their hoops no problem. I went today to go change my name at the bank and a credit union I've been with since I was younger, and after asking for my info as to why I'm at the bank and if I have the correct paperwork to say I'm married, I wait and then I'm told I can't change my name since I didn't bring him along. (he and I had joint accounts before) and my mom signed me up for my credit union so couldn't change it there either without her signature. Who knew I needed other people around to change my own name. Oh well, so it was rather frustrating morning where not much got accomplished, so good luck and be forewarned if your going to change your name, you may need some company :-)

Ugh. I feel your pain!
I tried to deposit wedding checks into my account since we didn't have a joint Savings. The checks were all made out to "Mr. and Mrs. Sean..." They wouldn't let me deposit them 'cause he wasn't there, his name wasn't on my account, I hadn't changed my name, etc.
So DH and I went to set up the new account before he went to work one morning, but I didn't have the certified copy of my marriage license, and we had no proof of his address change. We ended up setting up the joint account with my maiden name, my mom's address on mine, and his parents' address on his.
Fast forward to a week later when we finally have the certified copy, and we're spending DH's day off in the bank for over an hour while we change my name on the five different accounts I have with that bank, change addresses for both of us on everything (which required the apartment lease to prove that...), and get all the online banking set up for the new account.
I am NOT looking forward to Thursday... which is when I'll most likely end up at the SS office and DMV. Ugh.
Ugh - I haven't even started this process yet - I am not looking forward to it. But this morning I did send in for the official copies of the marriage license, so I guess I'll start the process soon.
We already talked about the checks from the wedding though - I figured it would be more difficult for met o deposit them, so I'll just sign and he is depositing in his account. We may do a joint account later....
It is definitely a pain in the neck; I'm attempting to change my SSC tomorrow, hopefully it will go smoothly!
Good luck! Take your ID, birth cert, and certified copy of your marriage license. It makes the process go a whole lot easier. KS also had a form I printed from online and filled out before I went in to get a SSC replaced -- it made it a lot simpler for the secretary to fill in all of the information she needed.
