Rec Your Travel Agent

So DH and I have decided we're kind of unsure of where to go for our big "summer tropical spelnder vacation".  We were set on Turks and Caicos Islands, but the reviews are only so-so.  I LOVE Bora Bora...just not sure I want to pony up the cash.

It's been hell trying to get a TA though- seriously they don't reply at all.  Anyone have one the recommend?  I picked up a Costco pamphlet, but I'm not digging who they contract with.

Re: Rec Your Travel Agent

  • We used a girl named Amity with Distinct Destinations for our honeymoon.  My parents and their friends also used her when they booked their anniversary trips late last year.  She is absolutely wonderful!  Her website is: www.yourdistinctdestinations.com and her phone number is 623-225-9806.  It says on the website it is for honeymoons and weddings but she will book any kind of trip!
  • Actually, I wouldn't recommend Amity.  My hubby and I met with her for almost 3 hours one evening and thought she was absolutely wonderful.  She had helped us decide on a honeymoon spot that we hadn't considered previously (Riviera Maya in Mexico), and we were excited to hear back from her with quotes.  We never heard back from her.  When I emailed her, she said she'd been really busy (ok, it happens, I understand), and that she'd email us a price list by Monday.  A few Mondays came and went, and we never heard from her.

I found glowing recommendations for Tami Pruitt of www.tripsurfervacations.com on Tripadvisor.com, so I contacted her.  She responded very quickly and kept in touch with me through phone calls and emails.  We did make her job very easy--we knew where and how long we wanted to stay, and I had researched pricing on my own, so all she really had to do was book the trip.  But, she went above and beyond and found a better trip insurance package for the same price as the one she had initially offered us and we were going to take.  She also honored a price she had given me on the previous day, even though the airfare had gone up a couple hundred bucks.  She was very knowledgeable and was able to answer all of my questions.  Best of all, she returned all of my calls and emails in a timely manner.

I appreciated the time that Amity spent with us, and she helped us select a destination and resort that ended up being perfect for our honeymoon, but if she would have just followed up, she would've had the commission that was given to Tami.

  • My MIL is a great travel agent, but she is in MA. She would work with you though via email and phone. She's pretty quick right now due to not working (she was laid off from her banking job so she has a ton of time on her hands to research things for you). If you would like her info, let me know :-) I don't want to put her number here out to the world as she uses her personal cell phone!

  • Thanks Ladies!

Who know picking a destination could be so challenging! =)  This is why I do Disney- I know Disney LOL

Oh wow that is crazy!  She was so prompt with everything with us...it makes me sad to hear that!

  • Yeah, I know.  We were bummed about it because we were looking forward to working with her--she was so much fun.

  • we were SO spoiled by our travel agent. she upgraded us in any way she could.  we had a beach front suite with all the amenities and a whole bunch of other stuff.  we worked with Nancy Finn at www.myislandgetaways.com.  She was awesome to work with.  we are planning another trip for our 5 year anni and will definitely be calling her.
